Big Wins for Small Businesses in Northeast Wisconsin
Small businesses in Northeast Wisconsin are getting a major boost thanks to new state funding. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has awarded nearly $3.2 million in Small Business Development Grants to 19 organizations across the state—including several right here in our region. These competitive grants, ranging from $50,000 to $250,000, are being distributed through local governments and development organizations to directly support small businesses with building improvements, startup support, and revitalization projects. Here’s how some of our communities will benefit:
-
Door County received $225,000 for its Small Business Façade and Property Improvement Program to help business owners upgrade their storefronts.
-
Fond du Lac was awarded $215,000 to expand various grant programs for downtown revitalization and new business development.
-
Kiel secured $60,000 to grow its façade revolving loan fund, offering low-interest loans to help local businesses improve their spaces.
-
Ripon will use $240,000 to support business growth in Ripon, Waupun, North Fond du Lac, and Campbellsport through the WRNC Business Opportunity Fund.

This initiative builds on Gov. Tony Evers’ past efforts, including the Main Street Bounceback Grant Program, which has already helped fill thousands of vacant storefronts across Wisconsin. The Governor’s proposed 2025–27 budget includes another $50 million investment to expand that success and provide more support for up-and-coming local businesses.
